Winter 2011
6 week session
Wednesdays 1/19-2/23 (CLASS FULL)
Thursdays 1/20-2/24 (CLASS FULL)
3:30pm-5pm
Usually we spend every minute of every class exploring nature together outdoors. The winter session will be organized a little differently due to the unpredictability of the weather this time of year. This session will include many outings, hikes, explorations in nature, as well as some indoor time creating beautiful works of art out of natural materials.
Some of the activities planned include creating Native American Medicine Shields, learning about our totem animals as sources for protection and making our own personal shields. We will create our own flower presses and hike, pick and learn about many of the local plants and their edible and medicinal uses. We will learn how to make cordage (twine) from local plants or harvest some local plants for basket making. We will gather plant materials and make our own paints and paint brushes from nature. We will take up the cause of promoting one of the few trails that lead directly to the community elementary school by creating informative signs to post along the trail and much much more.
Ages 5-10
Classes limited to 8-10 children.
Cost: $135.00 (includes materials fee)
