Keepers of the Earth Summer Camp 2013

Ancient Ways: Harmony with Nature
Keepers of the Earth Summer Camp is all about learning from the ancient wisdom of the native people who once lived in the Santa Monica Mountains. Living in harmony with ones natural surroundings was effortless. No one ever thought to take more than what was needed in this area of great abundance. Food, shelter, medicine, entertainment, connection could all be found in these mountains. The circles of life were recognized and honored and balance maintained.
We will spend the week hiking, exploring and being in the woodlands, the chaparral, the grasslands and meadows, as we deepen our relations with the land through games, crafts, music and much much more.
Some of the activities we will be doing include:
*Making/playing traditional Chumash instruments
*Making/playing Tongva/Chumash games
*Gathering local edible/medicinal plants & learning recipes for using them at home
*Learning how to make rope out of local plant materials
*Learning the art of tracking, camouflage & using/making bows & arrows
*Exploration of "indian" caves
