 children's classes

Picture
Keepers of the Earth classes are held 4 times a year in rhythm with the seasons. Each session carries the theme of each season. Activities and topics support the children's understanding of what is happening in the natural world in real time. If it is Spring, we are watching the first green shoots pop up, the animals performing their mating rituals, and learning the names of all of the wildflowers. If it is Autumn, we are finding seeds, noticing the crunching leaves under our feet and watching the animals collect their harvests for their winter stores.

Most sessions are 8 weeks and classes are held in Topanga.

Every Keepers of the Earth class aims to strengthen our connection with our natural surroundings. We will continually be working on building natural awareness and making use of our senses. Building these skills is essential for children growing up in our fast paced modern culture. Another key component in establishing these deep connections with nature is to foster a real sense of responsibility and motivation to become true KEEPERS OF THE EARTH.

Sitting in a classroom, in front of a television, playing video games, riding in cars, staying in temperature-regulated homes, leaves little opportunity for our children to exercise their sense capabilities or their awareness skills. Take children out into nature and ask them to be still for as little as 3 minutes and a whole world opens to them. That brief encounter allows the senses to come alive and awareness to become focused. Children learn these very valuable skills that we take for granted in Keepers of the Earth programs.

adult classes

Keepers of the Earth classes provide an opportunity for deep exploration of our human roots. Spending extended time in nature supports our pursuit of wholeness, helping tap into our ancestral understanding of the natural world and consequently our place in it.
